BSF jawan murdered, 2 held

Balurghat (WB): A BSF jawan was killed by smugglers at Hili near the Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur district and two persons have been arrested in this connection, police said on Tuesday.

Two persons were arrested for the murder of HT Kantaraj, a resident from Karnataka, whose stabbed body was spotted on Sunday at a spot between Iswarpara and Srirampur localities, police said.

The two arrested persons - identified as Sushil Pal and Swapan Pahana - were rounded up from Iswarpara area this morning.

Prima facie it appeared Kantaraj, a head constable, was targeted by smugglers, around 40 in number, for trying to stop cattle smuggling across the border, police said.

A BSF spokesman said a team would be coming from New Delhi soon for detailed investigation.

Army jawan killed, another injured in separate blasts in J-K

An Army jawan was killed and a BSF jawan injured in separate blasts in Jammu and Samba districts.JAMMU An Army jawan was killed and a BSF jawan injured in separate blasts in Jammu and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said here on Tuesday.

Havaldar Sardar Singh of 19 Raj Rifles was repairing a cooler in Arms Maintainance room in army camp in Kharian area when the explosion took place here yesterday, they said.

The jawan died on his way to a hospital, they said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard.

A FLS team on Tuesday visited the spot and collected the explosive sample, Station House officer (SHO), Miran Sahib, Suinil Jasrotia said.

"The blast took place due to some explosive material," he said, adding efforts are on to ascertain the nature of the explosive material.

In another incident, a jawan of 182 battalion of BSF, Lance Naik Dev Singh was cleaning weapons and grenades in forward Border Out Post (BOP) Chak Faqira along the Indo-Pak Border in Samba district on Monday, they said.

As he saw that safety pin of one of the grenade has come out, he threw the device away resulting in the blast, they said.

The injured jawan has been admitted to a hospital.

Pak intruder killed by BSF on Indo-Pak border

TARN TARAN: An intruder was killed and another pushed back when the alert troops of Border Security Force foiled an infiltration bid along Indo-Pak international border at khalra sector in district Tarn Taran. 

Infiltration attempt was foiled by the BSF when a group of 2 intruders tried to enter the Indian territory. The BSF troops  late Saturday night  noticed a suspicious movement near Burji number 130/6, gate number 131 khalra Sector.

 According to information Anil Pande And Ram Saroop were present on duty that time. They asked the people to stop but on seeing the troops, the intruders tried to escape following which the BSF opened fire and one of the intruders was gunned down, another intruder was pushed back by the troops. 

The identity of the deceased has not been established yet and further searches were on in the area.

Assembly passing anti-Kashmir laws: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, Apr 29: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that legislative assembly was passing anti-Kashmir laws ‘to strengthen the hands of India in Jammu and Kashmir.’
Addressing the Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz said that state legislature was no different from the forces in oppressing and usurping the rights of Kashmiris.
“Army, BSF and CRPF oppress Kashmiris and in the same way assembly was endorsing the draconian Acts and passing legislations against the interests of Kashmiris,” he said.
